  • Older travelers

It was central, quiet and the staff and breakfast were great

    the stairs

  • Group of friends

I really enjoyed the hospitality. We were greeted outside when we arrived and invited to sit and have tea. Mumad was just a joy. He was very personable and provided whatever information we may have needed. The rooms were clean and we had a great view of the street. I would definitely stay here again. I just really appreciated the down home feel in another country so far from home. :-) It was also situated in a great neighborhood. Tons of shopping and close to tourist sites and transportation.

  • Group of friends

very kind staffs and good location for a sightseeing, traditional Turkey breakfast.

  • Older travelers

excellent location in the old city. great host for whom nothing was too much trouble - with excellent english language skills which is always helpful. very good breakfast too.

  • Couple

rooms very nice and confortables, staff kind and nice, good and abundant breakfast, good position

  • Family with children

The owner, Mehmet, is an extremely helpful and hospitable man. His English is good and he's always willing to make suggestions and answer questions. The breakfast is buffet-style and authentically Turkish. We really enjoyed our stay!

The triple room is a little small for three people, but the view of the Blue Mosque made up for it.

  • Single

Good location, near the Blue Mosque and friendly host.

  • Older travelers

The hostel is nicely situated and we were lucky to get the big family room with nice views up the street and enough space to make ourselves comfortable.

The frequently praised breakfast terrace has been "cancelled", as Mehmet said, in order to create two more rooms.Guests are meant to have breakfast in the tiny lobby now. 8 people have to squeeze up on two small tables, and every morning some guests who come down for breakfast have to wait for a place. The "buffet breakfast", that you collect from the tea kitchen, is hardly worth the trouble: no honey, just one kind of cheap cheese from the supermarket, the highlight is a small portion of yoghurt for everyone. When Mehmet and his brother have breakfast next to their guests, it looks a bit different: fried eggs, sesame rings, honey ... When we arrived, Mehmet told us that he had to put up the couple who had lived in our room before in his own house for the last night they had booked. In return he had to send us somewhere else for our last night. Two other guests, who had paid for a double room with private bathroom, were put up in a kind of boxroom for their first night. Mehmet wouldn't think of offering any compensation for these funny little mistakes, even if you told him that you expected him to.

  • Couple

The owner was very curteous and friendly, and at all times tried to make sure we were comfortable. When we got lost on the way back one night, arriving at quite an unsociable hour, he got up to let us in and thankfully didn't make an issue of it. (Perhaps he should come up with a new system for the door that would save him some sleep!) The room was a decent size with an excellent view of the mosque. The towels and bedding were clean. Breakfast was good, we especially liked the yoghurt. As mentioned in other reviews, the bathrooms are compact but that's to be expected as it's quite a small Hotel. I had no problem with it- you would probably be paying a similar price staying at a hostel with shared bathrooms. Excellent budget accommodation!

  • Couple

The view of the Blue Mosque and its location were fantastic.

I expected more for the money. The bathroom had a toilet crammed in an area too small to sit forward, and the shower was basically on top of the toilet.

  • Couple

The lamp guesthouse has the best possible location in the heart of Old Sultanhamet. We had a simply amazing view (the Blue Mosque, just 200 yards away... ) by our bedroom window. The bed was super confortable and the room, despite being on the small side, was very clean with a 'Turkish decor' touch that you rarely find in that hotel category. Most of all, Mehmet, the owner, made us feel at home, he was lovely and welcoming, and let us browse the internet whenever we wanted to. If we go back to Istanbul (which we certainly will), we will stay there again.

Like in many hotels, the bathroon was small and you have to be ready to have your shower next to the toilet (it does not bother us, but I know people who would not feel comfortable) which wets the whole bathroom floor. It was clean though, but a little bit of Grotbuster would make it look healthier. Also you should be aware that power cuts are frequent in this area. We did not have electricity/hot shower for one day and one night - but that was no fault of the guesthouse, just bad luck.

  • Single

Sight on blue mosquee, close to everything, kitchen available for a cup of tea

No communication with the guys at the reception, when trying to chat they gave me wrong tourist info like places were closed especially that day...not helpful and not very welcoming. Don t ask for airport shuttle, it s expensive and so easy to get around with public tranportation ... 3 tl instead of 50 tl offered by the hotel!!!

  • Single

The Blue Mosque view is magical and the breakfasts (and view from the breakfast room) are lovely. The position of the guesthouse is great too.

I was unwell when I arrived and I think you need to be feeling quite robust to get the most out of staying here.

  • Couple

    The hospitability was superb.

  • Group of friends

Twın room but both beds were doubles))

Could do wıth a lıttle maıntenance, or ıs that part of the package?
